コカ・コーラおよびペプシ・コーラなどの飲料に添加される人口色素に2種類の発がん性物質が含まれることを公益科学センター（CSPI）が発見したことについて、米国飲料協会・米国食品飲料消費者製造商協会は反論の声明を発表し、コカ・コーラ社も「カラメル色素によってガンにはなることはない」との声明を発表した。19日付で中国新聞社が報じた。 

　コカ・コーラ社はCSPIに対する声明の中で、「CSPIは当社が使用するすべてのカラメル色素は安全だとの声明に無責任な疑問を抱いている」と主張し、「実際に当社の製品に使用するカラメルに発ガン性物質は含まれず、CSPIが指摘する物質は含まれない」と主張した。 

　続けてコカ・コーラ社は、「わが社の飲料は安全だ」と主張、わが社の製品に使用するカラメルに発ガン性物質は含まれないと断言した。（編集担当：畠山栄）
