Guinness Glasses-achievement hand in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture

日本一の眼鏡産地である福井県鯖江市でこのほど、市民や地元の学生らが眼鏡フレームを鎖状につなげるギネス記録に挑戦し、ギネス・ワールド・レコー ズ社の公式認定員立ち会いの下、「２０１１メートル」の新記録を達成した。
　学生や眼鏡企業の関係者らが「日本一の眼鏡産地を全国に発信したい」「市民に誇りを持ってほしい」との思いから、地域活性化のイベントと して企画。従来の記録はドイツの高校生が２００９年に達成した１万５２６０個、１７６０メートルだったが、海外からも眼鏡の提供を呼び掛け、１万６５３０ 個の眼鏡をつなぎ合わせた。

　牧野百男市長が最後の１個を置くと、会場からは万歳の声が沸き起こった。
