NECは7日、腕を軽く叩く（タップする）だけで情報機器を操作できる技術を開発したことを発表した。

両手首に加速度センサを取り付け、腕の上部・下部をスイッチに見立ててタップする。タップした腕の位置から両手首の加速度センサまでの距離に よって、加速度の大きさが変わることを利用して、その際の各センサの加速度データから叩いた位置を特定し、入力スイッチとして利用する。本技術では、両腕 の上腕、前腕上部、前腕下部へのタップと、手を叩く動作の計7通りの入力を可能とした。

自分の腕をタップする単純な動作だけで機器の操作が可能なため、複雑な操作方法を覚える必要がなく、誤操作がほとんど発生しない入力を実現。た とえばランニング中の音楽プレイヤー操作、鞄のなかにある携帯電話機の遠隔操作など、新しい利用方法が実現できる見込みだ。

この新技術は、10日～12日に日本科学未来館で開催される「インタラクション2011」にて、「ランニング中のミュージックプレーヤ操作」を 想定し「腕」をタップすることで操作を行う「ArmKeypad」として公開される予定。
